The Isham Memorial Library is a special collections adjunct to Harvard's Eda Kuhn Loeb Music Library. It is named for Ralph Isham (Harvard Class of 1889)[my great great-grandfather], who donated a new Aeolian Skinner organ to Harvard's Memorial Church in 1932; Isham also provided funds to purchase organ music. Following his death in 1937, his widow continued to support the building of the library collection. The growth of the collection, which was expanded to include general instrumental music of interest to scholars, necessitated a move from the choir library of Memorial Church to larger quarters within the building on the second floor, above the entrance foyer. With elegant furnishings provided by Mrs. Isham, the Isham Memorial Library was officially established and dedicated in 1939. (Quoted from the Web-site of the Isham Library).
I had the privilege of visiting St. Andrews in August of 1997. I was able to spend three days there. It is a beautiful old city that the locals have done well to protect. There is a large University of 17,000 + students and the ones I met were fun, friendly, and very nice to an American tourist. We first stayed at the Tudor Inn, which had a very nice pub on the ground floor. The hotel was a five-minute walk from the ocean and the golf courses. The pub was a favorite with some of the local university students. Good food and good prices, great beer!!

Three hints I would pass on: 1). Don't bother to make a reservation for accommodations (unless it is the very height of the tourist season). There are a number of B&B's and if you spend some time checking them out, you will find a very nice and comfortable room. 2). If you want to play golf and you do not have a tee time, you can usually get onto one of the courses if you are willing to a wait for a few hours near the starter. They will usually find a group going out on one of the courses that does not have foursome put together and add you. If you are a single trying to get onto one of the courses, this is the best way. Groups usually need a tee time and they can be hard to get. 3). Take a walk around the town. There is some lovely homes right on the cliff overlooking the ocean, a really cool old castle, and a very old cemetery that people walk through. It was interesting to read some of the old grave markers and family stones, some 400 years old!
